The historic 1-story craftsman style home was first built in 1941 by trailblazing architect, Edith Northman. Originally from Denmark, she moved to the United States in 1914 making history as one of Southern California's first female architects, as well as the first female architect to be registered in Los Angeles. It is characterized by its L-shaped plan and cross gable roof with clapboard siding at the gable ends and an exterior brick chimney on the secondary east facade, facing Willaman Drive.

Partnering with Los Angeles based architecture firm, bB|A Studios, as well as preservation consulting firm, Historic Resource Group, award winning celebrity interior designer Ryan Saghian reimagines the traditional charm of the east coast with the cool, effortless aesthetic of California.

The proposed two-story addition is located at the rear (north) side of the existing residence and is set behind the primary east-west roof ridge to maintain the house’s original form. The addition’s roof pitch matches that of the original roof but is hipped rather than gabled to differentiate the addition and minimize its mass and visibility. The addition’s exterior walls are clad in brick veneer at the first floor and clapboard siding at the second, to further differentiate the addition while echoing the materials of the original house. A new exterior brick fireplace on the east facade is modeled on the original but with simplified details. New windows are similar in size and proportion to the original windows but are casements instead of double-hung, and have six lights instead of twelve for a simpler, more contemporary appearance.

With a total of 3,386 square feet the new, 2-story home, has a total of 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, 1 powder room, a performance kitchen, mudroom, and a pool. Sourcing from some of the industry’s leading A&D manufacturers, 8671 Clifton features the finest grade-a oak flooring and millwork, premium tile and stone, as well as vibrant living finish fixtures.

With a total lot size of 5,412 square feet, landscape architecture firm, Potting Hill, created a multi-functional landscape that utilizes all of the properties corner positioning. A groomed setting of boxwood globes, Palo Verde, and Del Rio gravel surrounds a field of grass in the front, fire-pit deck on the side, and a sun-backed pool in the back.
